Analyzers

Battery Analyzers

Battery analysis reduces the total cost of ownership by fully utilizing each battery and replacing it before failure.

Testing methodology

A repeatable battery testing workflow

Standardized testing begins with the decision the result must support. Screening, service, quality control, and laboratory characterization require different levels of time, control, and measurement.

How do you standardize battery testing across multiple battery types?

Document the battery chemistry, nominal voltage, rated capacity, termination limits, temperature range, and intended duty. Select a validated program for that battery family, control the initial state of charge and rest period, identify the battery and test station, and store the measured result with the program revision. Do not apply one threshold indiscriminately to unlike batteries.

When is a rapid diagnostic test preferable to a full cycle?

Rapid diagnostics are useful when service throughput and a prompt go-or-no-go decision are priorities. A controlled charge and discharge cycle is preferable when measured capacity, calibration, quality assurance, or detailed performance evidence is required. The two methods serve different decisions and can be used together.

What information is needed to identify a weak battery?

A defensible assessment uses more than open-circuit voltage. Depending on the application, useful evidence can include measured capacity, state of health, internal resistance or conductance, charge acceptance, self-discharge, temperature, age, and historical results under the same test conditions.
