Cadex Spectro Modular - March Update

March 17, 2022

The first Spectro Modulars will be sold to the world’s third-largest car manufacturer (by volume) to check the integrity of starter batteries. We’ll focus on starter batteries because of communality in architecture that enables the use of a generic matrix.

Lead acid and Li-ion batteries for UPS will need a model-specific matrix that well develop with the interested parties by testing batteries with various state-of-health conditions. This will make the Spectro Modular attractive yo research labs, manufacturing and quality control. We’ll discuss more on the technology of this product in subsequent Newsletters. The graph below demonstrates Nyquist plots of different batteries. The pivotal advantage is of Spectro™ is assessing SoH by capacity, something that impedance measurements alone cannot do. Impedance will check the CCA of a battery; however, the leading health indicator is capacity.

Besides testing batteries, the Spectro Modular will examine anything chemical by analyzing acid concentration in liquids. But before we go too far, batteries have priority, limited by the availability of matrices.

The Spectro™ matrix is a machine-learning model trained by EIS data derived from batteries with diverse SoH. Our ability to develop model-specific matrices will govern the acceptance and success of this new product. Testing batteries with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is not new. Our patents go further and secure multi-model EIS, algorithms that analyze the electrochemical integrity of a battery, similar face recognition with a camera.
