Cadex Launches Complete Solution for Cellphone Battery Testing in Retail Stores

C5100 Battery Testing System Delivers Added Value for Retailers

CTIA 2011, Orlando, FL: Cadex Electronics (Vancouver, Canada) announces the C5100 Battery Testing System. Designed specifically for use by retailers, the system delivers added value by improving customer service, generating new revenue, and saving significant operational costs associated with servicing cellular phones and their batteries.

Two trends in the mobile communications market have come together to create a critical need for battery testing in retail stores. The first trend is evident to everyone who has to charge their phone more than once a day: the power demands of today’s multi-tasking devices have outstripped the capability of batteries, resulting in more batteries failing much sooner than expected. Secondly, customers are increasingly using retail stores as their primary channel to resolve service and equipment issues, driving store owners to seek the right tools to meet their demands.

The C5100 Battery Testing System allows retailers to immediately resolve common customer problems by identifying if the battery or the handset is the source of the power problem. By doing so, their customers are more satisfied, and retail staff is not faced with the unenviable task of forcing the customer to find a solution through other channels.

Up to 90% of all batteries returned by cellular customers being claimed as “bad” are still useful. In many cases, these batteries are simply replaced and discarded at a significant cost. By testing the battery, the store owner will save money by not replacing batteries that are still good or generate additional revenue by selling a new battery for those that are problematic. For companies responsible for servicing handsets, the ability to identify bad batteries at the point of customer contact avoids processing through a repair center. This simple solution translates into significant savings where the payback can often be measured in days.

The C5100 Battery Testing System uses proprietary QuickSort™ technology and requires only 30 seconds to sort batteries into 3 categories: GOOD, LOW, and POOR.  Some customers arrive with “dead” batteries that no longer accept a charge because of over-discharge. The C5100 features a unique Boost function that revives these batteries as well as additional Cycle and Charge functions for backroom processing of returned batteries. The system has been designed for simplicity and requires minimal staff training.
Cadex C5100 Battery Testing System
The C5100 Battery Testing System enables the user to print a traditional customer receipt or a full service report, both of which can be configured for the specific needs of the retailer. Test results can be analyzed using the BatteryStore software or exported to a corporate database where results from multiple locations can be reviewed.

Ultimately, C5100 Battery Testing System allows retail store owners the opportunity to address the needs of an increasing number of consumers by providing a simple, valuable, and immediate diagnosis of handset battery problems.
