Most battery rapid testers evaluate the battery on internal resistance, also known as conductivity. Conductivity is useful in checking the loading capabilities of a battery, such as cranking a car engine. However, conductivity cannot give capacity readings. Knowing the capacity of a battery is important for applications such as wheelchairs, golf carts and marine applications. The Spectro CA-12 tester checks battery capacity, conductivity and state-of-charge in 30 seconds.

What’s so unique about Spectro™?


The secret of runtime lies in capacity; it defines the energy a battery can store. Until now, capacity could only be measured with a full discharge/charge cycle. This procedure is time consuming and wears the battery down.
Cadex has developed a battery tester that can read battery capacity in 15 seconds. The Spectro CA-12 is based on multi-model electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (Spectro™), a technology that opens the door to an entirely new way of battery testing



How is the Spectro CA-12 different?





Most battery testers are based on DC load or single-frequency AC. While these systems are able to read
battery conductivity, capacity remains unknown.





Spectro
™ is capable of measuring capacity, the most critical health indicator of a battery. To complete the puzzle, the CA-12 also reads state-of-charge (SoC) and impedance (Z).





Why was this not done earlier?

Older technologies were unable to crunch large amount of data. The CA-12 uses a powerful
digital signal processor that completes 40 million transactions to calculate the test result.









Ease-of-use

Simply connect the Spectro CA-12 to a sing battery and read the results. The batteries don’t need to be fully charged or disconnected.

The CA-12 shows the results in numeric and graphic format. In cart mode, the unit displays the capacity and SoC of individual batteries.

Low Charge
A low battery reduces the drive power; the CA-12 indicates low charge.


Low Capacity
A low capacity battery may have good drive power but the runtime is short. The CA-12 shows low capacity.



Mismatched Set
The battery with lowest capacity governs the runtime. The CA-12 marks these packs as non-performers.




Prints reports, interfaces with PC




The Spectro CA-12 comes with PC-Companion software to keep a database, download test results, print reports and upgrade firmware. RS232 or optional Bluetooth interface; infrared link to optional label printer.
