UCC2 Vehicle Battery Charger

Take command; charge batteries in the vehicle
Disasters, emergencies and power outages place uncertainty on radio batteries, compromising communication when it’s most needed. The Cadex UCC2 vehicular charger keeps your fleet running when everything else fails.
  • Shortest possible charge times
  • Charges NiCd,NiMH and Li-Ion
  • Conditions battery while charging
  • Complies to SAE J1455,MIL-STD 81D-E
  • Prevents vehicle battery from depleting

Rugged and reliable chargers from the battery experts
The reliability and longevity of a battery hinges on the quality of the charger. Choosing a well-engineered charger provides longer lasting and better performing batteries. Nowhere is this more important than in a vehicular charger.

A charger shouldn’t become obsolete when you replace your old radios with new ones. The UCC chargers use interchangeable adapters that allow upgrading to the next model. You can also charge different battery types side-by-side.

Easy installation in a vehicle
The UCC2 connects directly to the 12-volt system. The built-in DC/DC converter regulates the supply voltage from the starter battery; suppression circuitry protects the charger from voltage spikes. Should the starter battery fall below a safe cranking voltage, the UCC2 automatically suspends charging to ensure engine start. Prolonged parking while charging will not drain the battery.

What to look for in a vehicular battery charger
Charging in a vehicle demands special attention to details that are often overlooked. Cadex knows about these conditions and designed the UCC2 accordingly.

Hot and cold charging

Batteries can’t be charged if too cold. The UCC2 warms up the nickel-based battery with trickle charge and when above freezing, normal fast charging commences. Li-ion charges only above freezing.

The UCC2 halts charge at high battery temperature and resumes at half current when the pack has cooled down. This enhances battery longevity and safety.

Reverse-Pulse improves charge acceptance
During charge, the UCC2 intersperses discharge pulses, which helps recombine the gases in NiCd and NiMH batteries. This results in faster charging, reduced memory and longer service life.

Battery conditioning and calibration
NiCd and NiMH need periodic full discharges to reverse memory and regain lost battery performance. Smart batteries require the discharge for calibration of the fuel gauge. The UCC2 applies a discharge and recharge on your command.

Fault detection
A battery defect is often difficult to spot, especially if the pack charges normally. The UCC2 identifies battery anomalies and terminates the charge to protect battery and equipment. A light signal alerts the user of the defect.

Reactivating batteries
If over-discharged, Li-ion batteries go to sleep and a recharge is often not possible. The UCC2 automatically wakes up these seemingly dead packs by reactivating the safety circuit and applying a full charge once the voltage has recovered.
